Hey folks... Checking in with a lot of stuff...
Thanx...
FONG
- #1) This setup may fall into the realm of Business Class Roadrunner... Order accordingly...
- #2) Josh is still waiting for antennas and coax cabling to arrive. That should probably happen Monday or Tuesday. But we did some configuring and testing his morning with what equipment we did have... just shooting it across his apartment. Network-wise, it is effective... And I plan to update the Google Document with the gritty details that the network folks would care about...
- #3) I gave a Working Group report at GA today, stating the above, and calling for a convening of IT Working Group soon to form Good Neighbor and other policies. Elizabeth and Dan were present. I don't know if Elizabeth is in this CC email, but I think she took off before I could chat with her. Someone from Comfort, I believe, asked if we could address possible online methods of keeping inventory.
- #4) I spoke to Dan afterwards and we agreed there should be two meetings... One a bonafide meeting of the IT Working Group... another one would just be 4 or so technical people getting together and testing the long-throw from Steve's apartment to the camp. Which order that should happen depends on when Steve would be available to give us access to his apartment.
One way or another, We set Tuesday at 11am as a tentative next meet. If we get in touch with him and he is able to accommodate us by Tuesday, then that time will be used for testing. If he is not, then we will just make that the time for Working Group meeting. Can folks make it at this time? - #5) Josh suggested we get hold of a laser pointer to assist with the aiming. Anyone have a decent one? If not, I'll look into getting one.
- #6) Steve would you be able to coordinate with Dan in order to get the RoadRunner installation rolling? I believe Dan has volunteered to put the account in his name.
- #7) I have been working on the Anonymizing computer. It is proving a harder task than I thought. I a going to continue researching and attempting to create this machine. If anyone has any expertise in this endeavor, hit me up. But I don't think we will have this in time for deployment. I think we can deploy and add anonymization later though.Josh also expressed some concerns about slow-down using the Tor network. I think these are valid and should be considered.
- #8) Dan suggested we create an 'email list' for IT. He gave me the impression there are already email lists for other working groups? If so, how are they being created and served up? Would you guys be ok if I created an IT email list on my colocated server rather than using a service, like gmail, that's not in our direct control? If so, who wants on it?
- #9) The following are some items off the top of my head that need to be on the agenda for the next IT Working Group meeting:
- I) Come up with method of assigning tech folks who would administrate the network and would have admin access to gear and computers. Also finalize who/when/how would have physical access to the gear in Steve's apartment.
- II) Draft up a Good Neighbor Policy for the WIFI access point
- III) Decide on the means of offering the WiFi access point (ie. decide on passphrase or system of passphrases... decide whether the WAP should broadcast its name... etc.)
- IV) Decide on (for lack of a better term) Terms of Service... What we will provide the camp and each camper (bandwidth?)... What we will provide specific working groups (ie. Media.. bandwidth...)
- V) Discuss powering and securing the gear that has to reside at camp
- VI) Share thoughts on Tor and anonymization
