Hi guys!
Couple of us in Mind/Body/Spirit were chatting today, absolutely ecstatic that the charges against all those arrested Saturday night will be dropped. We thought it would be a really good idea to draft a thank you letter to District Attorney David Soares and his office for all their support and rationality since our Occupation began. We weren't sure exactly how to go about that, and wondered if you folks might be willing and able to help come up with something that everyone could get behind, and get it published in as many media outlets as will carry it. It'd be good to show the outsiders that we're not a bunch of ungrateful goobers who think we're owed everything on silver platters... an accusation I've heard far too many times.
Think it over and let us know if we can help!

The practice would be to send a thank you from yourself as an individual or to write the thank you letter and bring it to the GA as a proposal. Since we don't have any organizers its kind of up to us to do our own organizing.
This could be a good idea, though.

DA Soares' term is up at the end of 2012, and, while I'm sure his core supporters appreciate the position he has taken wrt OA, there are others who will be critical of that position. I don't think he needs or necessarily would find beneficial an open letter of thanks from OA, but (while I am not a lawyer) I think it might not be inappropriate for those who have their charges dismissed to express appreciation in court for the DA's recognition of their fundamental free speech rights.

On second thought, I agree with lsl. It might not be helpful to David.

Private letters of thanks can't hurt.

If individuals want to send private letters and express that they have been participating with Occupy Albany, I see that as being proactive and supportive. I want to also remind individuals that individuals through out the community are not generally thankful to the DA and Albany PD and are seen as oppressors. When we express thanks or solidarity with these institutions we can be further marginalizing those individuals who are already on the fringes of society.
