OA GA Minutes 11-11-11
WG Report-Backs
Boyoctt WalMart WG – Sunday at 2PM meeting
Food – Meeting for Food WG tonight at 7PM
Coiordination – meeting tonight at 8PM
Facilitation – submit proposals at least 24 hours in advance to occupyalbanyfacilitation@gmail so that we can “vet” the proposals, and let you know questions you can expect and to streamline the process. Facilitation training happens every Saturday at 11AM.
Winterization – looking at things better than nylon tents, and they want people to sign up so they know how many people will need to be accommodated. “We Pay” donations are now live on the website. They are putting together a proposal for winterization in the next few days. We have lots of interest in donations.
Medical – They need more people to volunteer, but only Dennis and Nicole are doing it. If you know people who are RN or aides, etc… point them to Nicole. There are plans for opening a primary care clinic here.
WG Proposals
IT – Propboard IT forum, there is a link to the proposal that was handed out. Someone nearby has offered to give us internet access from their apartment. We’ll need a cable modem, router, computer, anonymizing proxy, high gain transceiver, and antenna, then in the park another antenna and transceiver, then an amnidirectional antennal and a router with a wireless ID. Access will be 24 hours per day with capability to connect many devices at a time. Monthly fee is $40 per month (for six months), $240 + $578 + 163 (for extra expenses) = $982.30. Powered by solar charged batteries (generator as backup). We will have physical access to the modem daily, but not 9-5 M-F. The IT WG will post a Good Neighbor Use policy prominently in the internet café tent.

THE PROPOSAL WAS CONSENTED UPON
Food – Proposal for reimbursement for $110.for food purchased at Pioneer Market.
CONSENSUS WAS ACHIEVED
Other Business
Mary – Very concerned about the unsupervised young people who are even now up in the camp ground. She is concerned about safety and assumed liability for OA in the event of injury or other harm to those kids. She is just asking that the question be considered and discussed. We’re talking about unsupervised minors here without parents or parents here but not supervising appropriately,
Suggestion that we create a proposal for how to have minors here between people’s safety and legal.
Elizabeth – from the Social Justice Center – On Friday Nov 18, SJC is having a fundraiser and fashion show (tix $10) at the Linda.
Clarissa – Spoke with someone from the Amsterdam Recorder who wants to come Wed or Thursday to talk with more people.
Neville – Encourages that when somebody has a task to do and think they’re taking on a lot of responsibility to invite someone along as a policy to foster more community participation.
Daniel – Someone got their backpack stolen and there are concerns of theft. Temp check on the previously agreed-upon People Safety policy to kick people out of the camp for violating the good neighbor policy and or theft is actually in accordance with the best interest of the group. Not speaking as a member of People’s Safety. If there is a “crime.” Temp Check: Is it really the values of the occupation to kick someone out by shun if they are stealing or if they’re not participating in the movement but come here and take advantage of the encampment and violate OA interests and policies. A lot of people wiggled their fingers positively. Daniel is coming to the GA because People’s Safety is not organized enough. Relevant info: Tomorrow at 11AM, a conflict resolution group will be meeting (first meeting).
Alfonso – we should be selling merchandise for fundraising. He would like to talk about fundraising. Things we sell in the park need to be made by us, not manufactured elsewhere. We can also have things available for suggested donations.
It’s Daiana’s birthday. We sang happy birthday to her.
