GA 10-31-11
WG Report-Backs
People’s Safety – Need to disseminate info on the People’s Safety procedures – a meeting after the GA to do that. They’ll have a handout in the next few days for it.
Facilitation WG – we would love more help, so come meet with us 20 minutes after every GA. Also, come see us 30 minutes BEFORE every GA in the GA space to get on the agenda.
WG Proposals
Safety – Rumors of people having weapons on site. I propose that we add to the good neighbor policy “no weapons on site.” This is going back to the safety working group to get specific language worked out.
Other Business
Wes – working on creating lists to help track people down to know who is doing what. The Coordination WG is working on this.
David – someone is willing to donate a large tent for a long-term loan that could be used for big gatherings
Nicole – Tobacco is not a WG. Someone said they’re taking money from general financial donations and diverting it toward the cigarette fund. There is a separate fund collected for cigarettes, and the “cigarette WG” is collecting $ separate from the general fund.
Nicole – this morning at 8:30, there was a group of people chanting at the sidewalk, “Cuomo is a Homo, fuck him in the Ass.” This is very bad for PR. The other day, somebody used the human mic to call a local administrator a “scumbag.” Let’s use the human mic appropriately. This is also a comment about not desecrating the American flag. The suggestion is to avoid messages that will alienate anyone who might be an ally.
Nicole – during the day, avoid using the port-a-potty to avoid costs of getting it pumped out.
Mark – he would like feedback on something – how can we have a discussion about the relation of the 99% to the movement. People can make suggestions on the community teach-in boards. The community outreach WG will formulate a proposal on this. Perhaps there will be a big roundtable discussion next weekend to discuss the future of the movement.
Someone else – he invited about 20 people to come and check it out ina newbie to newbie discussion. This will happen again at 2PM Sunday.
Mark – Meeting of the outreach, education, teach-in committee scheduled for tomorrow evening may not take place. We’ll have a final announcement tomorrow. Location TBA.
Collin – Proposal to add to the Good Neighbor policy: OA is a safe space and that bigotted, homophobic, sexist, and racist language be not tolerated on site. This was consensus of the GA. There was one stand-aside: “There are free speech processes we need to work through.”
