Just posted in the Facilitation & Logistics Forum on the subject of Amplification.
Figured I'd cross post over here to get the discussion maybe started about how much sense a live streaming audio/video server would make.
Now I haven't made it to any GA meetings yet but definitely hope to be able to attend the next. So if this or something similar has come up already I apologize.
I think The People's Mic is awesome but it seems that some have concerns with it.
Imagine a live audio stream controlled by the facilitators, instantly broadcast over a local wifi hotspot to anyone in attendance who connects to the feed.
In other words, anything said by whoever is in control of the stream, is instantly heard by anyone listening in on their phone...and also heard by anyone standing nearby.
There's some obvious problems that would need to be addressed (phone battery power, reliability and stability of the stream etc.), but I think some kind of system like this could work.
Now, I'm not a member of this Work Group but would love to be able to help out in any way I can. Can I just post in the registration thread? Or do I need to talk to somebody in the WG first?

With enough support this is very feasible. Shoutcast is great for this and smartphones. It will work long term for those with jobs and homes they return to charging in the downtime. The best option for those staying overnights and longterm would be an old Walkman or portable radio, and for us to obtain some small fm transmitters. If we can't find any maybe we can find some money for one or two decent ones. The real concern is power, but we will need that for alot of things so that should get worked out somewhere down the line.
To answer your question, the actual operation once we get beyond power is probably best served by media/pr. A radio station was suggested and this would make for more content for it.
