Since the volume of donated goods so far has exceeded our use (by dozens of lbs a day of baked goods per day, most notably), Matt from the Homeless Action Committee has put me in touch with the Food Pantries of the Capital District.
Once every two days or so, if there is substantial overflow (especially in the produce and baked goods departments, as has been the case), we will make arrangements to have the food pantries either pick it up from us or someone can take it to them. They are very grateful and happy that we can help them out, and as a measure of good faith in their support for us, we should return the favor. Here is their contact information:
Sheryl Stock (518)-458-116seven 32 Essex Street in Albany (Off Watervilet Ave, near the proposed new location for Honest Weight Food Co-Op) shery(at)thefoodpantries.org
Since the volume of donated goods is a little stochastic, it should be the responsibility of the food working group to make sure that food items get donated before they go bad. This is a great opportunity for community-building and helping out individuals who may not be able to make it to the occupation!
