This thread is for members of the Food WG to talk about other supplies or skills, that they could use to better fulfill their mission. If anybody can offer these things up, or suggest alternatives, please talk about that here.

what we need and how much we need depends largely on how the occupation shapes up and how many people we will be feeding so don't go crazy collecting this stuff until we have that info.
to add to the above list:
stuff: food processor (or 2), large water cooler to keep on site, cutting boards (preferably wood), dish towels, paper towels, cleaning supplies (sponges, soap, metal scrubbies, vinegar, bleach), plastic wrap (large industrial role), tin foil
specific spices: kosher salt, black pepper, cumin, basil, italian spices, garlic powder, chili powder, curry powder, cinnamon, sugar, brown sugar, (any spices, but these are good standards)
other: sesame oil, white wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, coconut milk, milk substitutes (soy, almond, hemp), peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese (and vegan alternative) butter and margarine, coffees, teas, worcestershire sauce (vegan, gluten free), ketchup, mustard, pancake mix
a source of cheap local, free range eggs would be nice too

Does anyone have, or know where to get, food grade barrels? We can get the plastic barrels, cut a hole towards the bottom, and use food grade plastic liners with a spout. They'd be ideal for water - if we can get enough man power to lift them full...

How about a food grade ballel that already is tapped for water distribution? I have a number of 12 gallon tanks and a couple of 55 gallon tanks. Also have a few 10 gallon "Igloo" type of dispensers. I will stop by on Friday and see what's needed.
Where's the nearest potable water source to the site? Do we have a clear picture of how we're getting water there? (water runs, pipe it in, etc)

Fire extinguishers, throw rugs, milk crates, trash cans are needed. The nearest potable water site may be at an apartment on Columbia street.

My sister lives towards Dove, and said that we'd be able to pipe water out to containers from there - probably just once though. I'm thinking of seeing if we have access to any of the faucet hoses that would be long enough....
I could buy some 15 gallon food grade barrels with spouts, if need be. But if Jules has some they wouldn't mind loaning out/donating - I'd say that's the way to go!
(I know it was discussed at the meeting on monday that anything larger than an "igloo beverage cooler is impractical" - but I still stand my ground and beg to differ. Better to have more than enough water, than need it and not have it. Just my .02)

Here is a list of things that I noticed were needed down in OA tonight:
(3) 55 gallon trash barrels - one for garbage, one for recycle, and one for compost. (6) headlamps (3) Sterno setups, to keep food warm. (2+) LARGE WATER/BEVERAGE COOLERS (this was discussed at great lengths, but didn't have follow through. Water is ESSENTIAL. PLEASE check and see if you have any large coolers for water!)
Things that we could use a lot of -Hand/Foot warmers -Battery operated lanterns
Most important: People and Support!!! The more people that are there to lend a hand, the better!
I want to personally give a 'virtual pat on the back' to the people doing an AWESOME job at the food tables. You were all working so hard to keep people fed, informed and happy!
I'm sure there's more, or things that people don't feel are as important as I do, but that's what I saw.
Stay warm and stay safe tonight!

I think keeping a single list of current needs refreshed daily is the best way for us non-occupiers to know how to support OA. I plan to try to bring supplies and restock stuff as often as possible and this would help me and others help the tent city residents. Thanks for all you're doing! WS
