This thread is for discussing possible suppliers of food for the Food WG to use to feed the Occupation. If anybody can speak for or even just suggest any stores, restaurants, organizations, etc. that regularly dispose of edible food, please talk about that here.

at the food wg meeting we made an extensive list of possible suppliers and members are looking into securing those supplies.
food not bombs already has several sources of free food, culled produce and bread though not all those sources know what they're donating to which is why i'm hesitant to post names on an open forum. we also know some businesses that are sympathetic to the cause and would probably be willing to donate towards it.
we're also talking about putting together a dumpster diving team though i'm concerned that some members of the occupation might be hesitant to eat food from a dumpster. but i can assure everyone we take food safety very seriously and in 5 years of food not bombs dinners have never had a complaint or issue relating to food safety.

I wasn't really planning to be in this working group, but I'll ask Soulfire farm about produce and egg donations. And yay to dumpstering. It's especially safer as the weather is cooling off.

Hey! I wasn't at the meeting of this WG after GA on Sunday, but I'd really like to help.
I work at a farm and am definitely up for procuring some seconds veggies. I can also talk to my co-workers who have closer relationships with other local farmers to see who would be interested in helping.

Ryan's Produce on Railroad Ave has culled produce for pick-up every day except Sunday. FNB has a relationship with them now. People who have vehicles that frequent SUNY Albany for classes or otherwise work around that area that have some free time during the day could pick up from them.

It's been long enough for a double post to be ok I was informed that the Pioneer Food Co-Op in Troy has closed (temporarily), Is there anyone nearby that can possibly save some of their produce and chop it up, vacuum seal it? If you transport it to the Furnace, there are people who can do the chopping and bagging but we need a connect. That food is all going to go bad and no one's going it buy it. Food, not Bombs!

All Good Bakers wants to donate bread and baked goods. I'm picking it up Friday morning and will bring it to the site. Total score for us because the bread will be fresh baked and delicious! I'll ask the bakers about continual/ long term supplies and let the WG know Friday.

Edit: I called their general info number and was told that I'm a day late They donated all of their perishables yesterday. Sorry I hadn't seen this message earlier. Any other suggestions on where to try?

Food donations:
Price Chopper Loudenville (Albany-Shaker Rd) has produce everyday:) 845-459-8720
Process: 8:45 AM - Call Pchop. Ask for "Produce" "I'm with Albany Food Not Bombs" "I was wondering if you have any SHRINK today". Then dictate a time to pick it up (noon usually). Pick it up and bring to Furnace (Keys to Furnace available for pickup volunteers).
Schedule: Mon-Thurs covered. Friday-Sunday pickup needed. 845-430-2584 to volunteer:)

How about the farmers market at the Empire Plaza on Friday? It is near the Egg. Some of the vendors may be willing to donate some of their goods at the end of the day. I believe they wrap up around 2.
