3 members of the teachin group (me, Mike and Chris) met at 5 PM Mon 10/17, had an informal discussion, with a provisional sense that the occupation encampment could be the site of an ongoing series of presentations, discussions and maybe videos.
We felt that many different topics could be presented and discussed, from skill building to economic/political theory, from diverse points of view, and that various organizations that the coalition group wants to reach out to be invited to present and lead discussions, friendly academics like Larry Wittner, who has taught Social Movement history, as well as other guest speakers. Also, members of OA who can make presentations and lead discussions would be encouraged to.
Weather permitting, the encampment will be a built in audience, and we also discussedcirculating schedules of future discussions to the broader community, as much of the 99% as we can reach.

Dear Teach-In Working Group,
I'm a faculty member at SUNY Albany who teaches in English and Globalization Studies. For the spring term, I'll be teaching a course called "Theoretical Perspectives on Globalization" which includes a diverse set of readings that provide a critical framework through which to understand our current economic, political, and cultural climate. I would be more than willing to effectively teach the same course (or perhaps a variation) at Occupy Albany if people there are interested in participating in such discussions. I can pass along a rough syllabus (of a version I taught last year, but will likely be somewhat modified for this round) if that would help.
I can be reached at bbenjamin@albany.edu
In solidarity,
Bret
