Shanna and I are forming an outreach committee. Our goal is to begin face to face contact with groups and individuals who might not know what Occupy Albany is about and to engage in conversations about how we can create the movement that belongs to everyone.
Our first meeting will be at 4pm on Sunday.

The 4pm meeting will be held at Grand St Community Arts, also?
In terms of getting the word about this Sunday meeting out there to folks w/o internet access, are there any fliers going around? Is there anyone with access to free printing? I'd be happy to go door-to-door Sunday AM/early afternoon.

So I had to leave the Outreach meeting early tonight so I just wanted to let everyone know that this week, I'm going to focus on getting flyers and sign up sheets on community boards, in businesses, public libraries, etc. I also really want to set up a meebo ( www.meebo.com/) for the website and will totally be willing to "be online" for a couple hours a week. The only thing is, I need an e-mail address to make an account...is there a specific one I should use? Do you guys have an occupyalbany@gmail.com account or something? Let me know and after I've created it, I'll post the link on here and someone (whoever the web master is I guess,) can post it on the website at their convenience. This meeting, while it had some speed bumps along the way, I think went well and we got some details sorted out, which is great! I want to thank the facilitators for their patience and willingness to help out!

Hey folks - The logistics & facilitation WG (which I am in) wants to reach out to both the Outreach and Occupation WGs about a plan for a march to the next GA.
Occupation WG suggested holding the GA outdoors for visibility. Logistics/Facilitation WG decided to be at GSCA again with the hope that we could organize a larger pre-meeting march.
Yesterday's pre-meeting march was 20 people and we handed out at least 100 flyers and had tons of conversations with neighbors along Delaware Ave, Morton, and Grand St. I think it was a very worthwhile outreach effort.
Log/Fac WG didn't plan something on our own because we figured we should talk to Outreach WG about a route & related stuff.
Is Outreach WG planning a meeting this week at which this could be discussed? If not, let's discuss it briefly here and also we could have a mini-meeting on Weds or Thurs with reps from Outreach, Logistics/Facilitation, and Occupation, to make a basic plan.

Hi.
We had a little working group meeting at 6pm.
It was neat and pretty focused. We will:
1) Start a bulletin board for potential allies--organizations and individuals -- so we have a list to reach out with when our message and statement of unity is refined.
2) We have a list of the members, emails and phone numbers of our working group so we can come together to do actions such as postering and leafleting as outreach. It is an open list and you can join.
3)We have a group planning to make a poster to publicize next week's meeting on the 16th. We are also encouraging everyone to make independent meeting posters and post them around. May a hundred posters bloom.
4) We think that outreach by postering, flyering and talking to people as well as contacting organizers from different struggles must be a priority so it's not an internet only movement.
5) We think that labor (3500 pink slips to cut social services are out there now), environmental struggle, anti-racist/anti-poverty/anti-violence work, peace work, women's empowerment all have common cause with our critique of the centralization of wealth and power.
We are the people we've been waiting for.
Much love and rage, Grace
PS If other working groups have overlapping purposes, that's okay. Making friends and connections and communicating with other regions of our 99% is an ongoing work of love and solidarity.
PPS I personally hope that we will consider marching to the NYS DEC to oppose hydrofracking, the way big capital will destroy family farms and the communal water supply for short term extension of fossil fuels. NY State's contribution to halting climate change must include BANNING hydrofracking. This is sustainability talking back to concentrated wealth and power: We cannot afford you.

There seems to be 2 outreach sub groups. One met before yesterdays general assembly meeting (I missed this meeting) and one (which I attended) met after. The second group seemed to want to focus almost exclusively on reaching out and networking with other like minded mostly progressive groups and organizations which I think is very important to do. Which group is this? My interests lie more in reaching out to individuals and the general public and trying to drive as many people to our movement as possible. I believe we need inclusiveness, numbers and continued growth (and everything else will fall into place) for the movement to succeed. As an example, WAMC had an hour call in show on Occupy Wallstreet last week. It was a great show and many local people called in with there experiences going to Wall Street but not one mention was made of Occupy Albany. I want to work towards getting Occupy Albany in the local consciousness with people talking about the movement in there schools and homes and churches and around water coolers in offices and wherever people meet. While the media has a role in this I think it goes way beyond that. To be effective we need to do more and take it upon our self's to promote the movement through our daily interactions with others. I want to work in a sub group where I can be most effective in helping to attract as many people as possible to our movement. Which group would be best for me? Someone suggested the media group but I don't think that is what I am looking for.
I think this is the group for me. How do I join and when is your next meeting. My email is markiewicz518@gmail.com or 518-772-7594 or friend me on facebook. Thank you for all your hard work. Mark Markiewicz

I was in a work group for outreach and community coalition building and I am excited to be working with everyone on Occupy Albany.
Is it possible for all workgroups list their meetings on a public google calendar, or activistresource.com. Also is there a newsletter type email blast that can be sent out twice a week or more.
I may be able to print up some flyers to help with outreach at my office if anyone is interested.

Thank you for the flyer offer. I have some ideas and am going to work on putting a generic flyer together tonight for the group to consider.
I would propose that all GA meetings open with a report from a representative from each working group.
I would also propose that 1-3 representatives from each working group meet prior to each GA meeting to help coordinate the working groups efforts.
I would further propose that the facilitators for the GA meeting come out of the working groups. We could pick 3 working groups for each meeting and have each group choose 1 member to be that meetings facilitator.
Thoughts? Comments?

Hey everyone, Thanks for making last night so much fun! I am on the Outreach Working Group. We are meeting this Tuesday, 10/11 at 8:30 pm at the Hudson River Coffe House on Quail St. for anyone who would like to join us. I have made a series of flyers which have been discussed, edited and approved by our group which will be printed and handed out then. I think it is a good idea to keep to these flyers so there is some consistency and to ensure we are sending out a positive and inclusive message. If you can not come to the meeting check back here or at the Occupy Albany page for a link to the flyers so you can print them yourselves. If you want to post general flyers there is a good group of them here: www.occupytogether.org/downloadable-posters/There is also a sub-group which I am a part of which will remain out of the way of the general group but hopefully provide feedback whose main goal is to target people of color and other groups which we would like to be part of Occupy Albany. This group will be doing face-to-face meetings with organized and not-so-organized orgs. The goal of these meeting will be to listen to people's grievances, host popular education discussions, and ask people how we can make our movement relevant to them. (this is a big part of the reason including SNUG was important.) If anyone has any questions feel free to post them here I will do my best to keep an eye on this thread and will try to get other members of my group on here to help.

I'd like to second the request for an easy access (aka not on these boards) public posting of all existing working groups and their contact info and upcoming meetings.
This seems like an outreach issue, as the reason for it is people who want to become involved and are not already part of one of the groups.
Is this something you guys can take on? It could go in the Occupy Albany NY FB page info, on occupyalbany.org, in the (otherwise empty) "working groups" forum on here (though not solely there)... Even if you don't have all the info, you could start something and give contact info for someone who has the ability to edit/update and various working groups could get in touch with you to be added.
Thanks!!
Also, I'd love to help out! I may come to the working gropu meeting tomorrow, but I know there are others with less time for meetings who would like to help... Please consider sharing publicly whatever outreach efforts you're working on so folks can chip in!

I made a google calendar that we could discuss at our next meeting and propose using at the next GA. It might be something we want to talk to media about because they are more aware of what's out there and useful in terms of the tech stuff than I am.
