Music is the heartbeat of our occupation. This is just a quick roll call to see who among us are musicians and what instruments are available.
I'm a bit of an instrument collector and have available a trumpet, tuba, accordian, and electric accoustic guitar (along with some smaller wind instuments). I can play a pretty mean tin whistle and know quite a few Irish songs. Perhaps we could arrange a concert one evening at the occupation site?

I play the alto sax and melodica. It'd be cool if we could get a snare. Do you play the tuba!?

i play accordian (and have 2). i used to play trombone, so i'm sure i could learn tuba if the revolution depends on it. i like singalongs of radical songs and it will help us keep warm.

I perform progressive socially conscious music (play guitar and sing). My performing name is Sybil Allyson. For example, I performed and led songs at last Saturday's peace rally for the 10th anniversary of the US War in Afghanistan. I have some songs that are apropos the Occupy Wall Street cause and would like to provide some music for Occupy Albany. Will you have even a small sound system? I could try without that, but don't know if it would work. I will not be staying over, but dropping by from time to time. Also, I need to avoid getting arrested.

Ruth Pelham, who does the Music Mobile & goes around to schools and parks singing socially conscious music with groups of kids, was at the Occupy Albany GA yesterday.
I left a message for her today asking if she'd come do something at the kids area this wknd.
Also someone should reach out to Cavanaugh & Kavanaugh. Deb has been posting on FB a lot about Occupy. I can talk to her if there isn't a point person coordinating stuff already who would be better to do so. Let me know. (They do instrumental traditional Americana... Lots of Appalachian influence, I think, but not just that. They play lots of instruments and have an extensive repetoire.)
AND YES! Let's sing together!!!! SO looking forward to that part!!! YES YES YES!!!!!

I could give singing a shot if need be, but that's about the only musical thing where I'd have even the slightest idea what I'm doing.

I'm a local musician, been in several bands and done small time tours. I plan to bring an instrument to events from time to time. I'm a part of media group, so my focus is really going to be from a journalistic perspective. But I can also help with other people, sharing instruments and equipment. what I play and have:
guitars, amps bass, violin drums (don't currently own any drums, but can play) synths.
I'm willing to let people use that equipment, provided I feel reasonably assured it will be well cared for. -Rob

Hi all. I am a member of the outreach WG. Me and another person from outreach know a couple of local, progressive rappers who have indicated that they are interested in being part of the movement. We are wondering if there is anything planned arts-wise for after the GA, say maybe about 8-10pm (the noise ordnance kicking in at 10 o'clock). Thanks. Peace and solidarity

I could get down with this (as _11:34, uke jams, bass jams, full jams)
@taina, I'm not planning on bringing any amplification. I think it's a risky move personally

I have a guitar and ukulele to bring tomorrow. Maybe accordion. I know these posts are from, like, a week ago, but this is still exciting.

3 djembes, cajon, didgeridoo, tibetan singing bowl, shekere, gangoku, cowbell, cabasa, wood block, shakers, floor tom, guitar, banjitar, 12-string guitar, tin whistle, singing
I'd be happy to share when I'm at the occupation.
Apparently legal said amplification is okay as long as it doesn't disturb neighbors past the noise curfew. There seems to be power, so I would be for amplification for specific events we schedule, but not all the time.
I do want to organize a concert featuring local musicians, speakers, and a march. I'm thinking a Saturday afternoon would be good since we can get people who are off work or not teaching to play/speak. Plus I think we'd have a better audience whom we could appeal to for donations of funds and material goods, not to mention educate them on what's really going on here and make the movement grow! I have a 2 channel 1600W amp and 12 channel mixing board to handle sound, and 2 700W speakers and powered monitors to complete the PA system. If we can build a makeshift stage complete with overhead protection from rain, I think this would be a success. Please email me at ScatSapien@gmail.com to sign your band up and to collaborate on this idea.
Taina?
Demetri?
Anyone else?

By the way, the 5th of November is a Saturday and Guy Fawkes Day! Strategic, relevant, and fun!
Let me know what you think!

Can we set something up for Saturday? Your PA/system sounds like it's better than mine but I have mic stands, mics, and some peripheral equipment. Maybe Taina Asili, Broadcast Live, Me (As _11:34 - indie-rock-oriented open-source punk jams). I would LOVE to play and could help set up (after 12:00 on Saturday)
