Not to get too many plates spinning, but... Last week, I did a temperature check at GA for a few other IT ideas I had. The one that people seemed interested in, was the idea of getting an opt-in SMS service to broadcast text messages to the phones of occupiers. Could be useful during marches for crowd-organization... Could be used to alert non-campers to surprise raids if they want to come on short-notice and help protect the camp. Could be useful just for general information distribution. I spoke to a colleague at a firm that provides these services. He can't speak for his employee as a whole, but he himself is sympathetic to the cause. So he is offering us what he offers his friends and family, which is as follows: Mobile ID package: - Full online platform to manage Mobile IDs (keywords), textbacks, leads, and outbound SMS (mass SMS)
- Shared Shortcode, full FCC/MMA compliance built in. Only requirements are outbound SMSs can not contain sexual content or violent content.
- Base package is $100/month, includes 500 free SMS bank plus 5 Mobile IDs. I can flip that for you, so $50/month includes 1,000 free SMSs plus 5 Mobile IDs. OR we can work together on a more custom solution.
Josh had mentioned some free services. I didn't think those really existed anymore. For a while I was using 3jam.com, but they started charging. What do y'all think of the idea? Any thoughts on alternatives to this pay service?
