We all here? Good.
Alright, Redditors, I've been thinking.
The way that Reddit functions is kind of like the consensus-based decision model, and also has elements that mimic the General Assembly / Working Group Structure. I mean it's a "wisdom of crowds" system for organizing information, where the information with the most upvotes (presumably the most important information) moves to the top. Then there's the Reddit / SubReddit structure, where the super- and sub-structures have pretty much the same relationship as the GA / WGs.
Imagine if another layer could be added so the topmost level was called... I don't know... "American Direct Democracy," the "SubReddit" level to that level were the regional / local instances (GA of Albany, GA of NYC, etc.), and the "SubReddit" level to THAT level were the WGs.
Just brainstorming here- depending on the user information collected, we could even play around with weighting votes in a dynamic way based on race, gender, etc. and frequency of individual participation to make sure that no one group or individual is dominating the process.
...I don't know- that's my caffeine-fueled first crazy idea of the day, all I know is that I spend a LOT of time on Reddit every day, and I think it's a great community, and a great system for sharing and being exposed to useful information, but it would be incredible to use that system to connect with my ACTUAL community, and to share and be exposed to information that helps my community and my country (and the world) become a better place.
Time for another cup of coffee. Thoughts?
