Shall we try to stake that out? Dylan Boyce (as Capital Area Permaculture Guild) seems to be trying to put together a map of where things will be. Rose, can you talk to Dylan about where this spot is (I don't know the park at all) so he can incorporate that info if he does end up putting together such a thing? Thanks! I messaged Dylan, and I have an appointment on Elk at 10:30 that morning so I can get there super early to stake out that space for the kids. It's the space between the statue of a guy sitting on a bench and the center of the park. There's one more area, right in front of the school building, that is even better lit and has a whole wall of building to help fence kids in, but it is concrete. How do we feel about concrete vs. grass?

Seems like something we could decide after a night or two of trying it out. We could move to the better-lit spot at dusk if it seems helpful. Different activities would be appropriate anyway (less with the watercoloring, more with the singing).

I think that scheduling caregivers is something that's going to need to happen once the occupation starts. Also, people will probably see the kid's area and volunteer if they want. Let's wait and see if Bhawin has any feedback or new "kid's stuff" members after the POC caucus.

How do we feel about concrete vs. grass? I think the middle of the park is good. Grass over concrete unless it gets really muddy. I'm inclined to stay away from the school district building in general as much as possible, seeing that they could be potential justification for harassment/ eviction. ("Those bad dirty protesters are interfering with the operations of our city's public schools").

Another thing that just came to mind is maintaining a list of food allergies that could be an issue that stays with the children's area. Especially if we end up with a rotating schedule of adults there.
I agree about the grassy area being preferable to the area near the school, at least during school hours. Depending on lighting issues, though, it might be a better option in the evening, especially if it starts to get dark while the GA is still going on?

As a parent of a kid with food allergies, I would not depend on a list that "stays with" the area. Each time I dropped him off (I may or may not actually end up leaving him there w/o myself or my partner), I'd explain to the current volunteers, show them his medic-alert bracelet, and hand them his epi pen and my partner's cell phone number. (Or leave the epi with the medical team if that's the arrangement we end up with.)
Having a spot to store meds/first-aid (if medical isn't totally taking care of this) and a spot to write notes of what one childcare person going off duty needs to communicate to the next person replacing them both make sense to me, though.
