I'm not really learned enough, or sensitive enough, or graceful enough to really unpack all the different threads that are going on in this conversation, but I recently read an article by Michelle Alexander in Yes! Magazine where I think she is able to speak to a white woman, like Nancy, who is struggling with these questions, and is able to frame her response in such a way so as to not diminish the woman and her experiences OR the role of race. I think this is something that will be important if we want to remain unified. The article is here: www.yesmagazine.org/issues/beyond-prisons/think-outside-the-bars

I don't really understand why the subject of race is even being addressed here. It's definitely awkward that everyone (I think) is white. I mean, seriously. It's getting to the point of self-parody.
I understand the need to address racial inclusivivity, but I really don't think that this thread is capable of addressing it with the anything approaching the respect it deserves.
Everyone has an opinion on this. In the right setting, discussion of those opinions can be cathartic. In the wrong setting, it can be divisive. I would ask that rather extend this conversation indefinitely on the forums, you ask the caucuses to host a moderated free-speech forum or something to that effect.

Hmmm, so let me see if I got this right. Now, as a result of one guy who refused to participate in consensus and lashed out at our friends during a march, we have identified 2 individuals who don't either don't believe in or have the aptitude to engage in dialogue, and will act out if people don't immediately cater to their opinion.
I would say that is a +2 for occupy. I am not shedding any tears over this.

I'm very glad I know that this isn't the only way in which this occupation can be framed.

Given some of our conversation last night, I think this is an important bit of this speech.
